The major factors which limit the dissemination and intemational recognition of the Spanish scientific and technical journals are identified and analysed. Publication and formal aspects of the scientific information contained in journals, its accessibility as well as certain publishing habits of the authors are studied. We believe that the problems presented in this study and the conclusions which are drawn are to a large extent applicable to the scientific publishing activities of other countries.
