The treatment of corporate authors for catalographic purposes requires research and clarification. 1 define some problemes and propose methods for the classification and characterizacion of these authors on the basis of aspects that have so far caused the greatest problems: jurisdictional area, i.e., the area in which the corporate author is located or where its influence is felt; its peculiarity, nature or condition; and its organization chart within a hierarchical structure. The resulting classification and characterization of corporate authors is explained with examples. The system proposed here should help raise awareness of the eficiencies of current standards principles and improve the way in which these are used as standardized access points for information retrieval.
