Library collections in CSIC libraries are analyzed, as regards three basic disciplines: chemistry, physics and biology; and two specialized areas, where CSIC develops an important work: food technology and marine science. The aim of this study is twofold: to detect overlapping which could be considered as unjustified, and to detect existing gaps, by comparing CSIC library collection, with ranking of journals. In conclusion, the situation for the two specialized areas can be considered as satisfactory, while for the three basic disciplinee, the situation in chemistry is far better than in physics, with biology in an intermediate place.
