Four decades of library and information science in Spain: bibliometric analyis of scientific production

The present work shows, through a bibliometric study, the evolution of the Spanish scientific production on Library and Information Science in the last four decades (1980-2019). The evolution of its quantitative and qualitative aspects is studied in blocks of ten years. The data show a notable increase in total production, as well as in the percentage of articles, works in Spanish and works in open access, in co-authorship and international collaboration, as well as the percentages of cited documents and used documents, while the percentage of led documents decreases slightly, as does the average number of citations per document in the last decade studied. In this decade, national sources begin to position themselves as the most used by authors. The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the most productive institution in all the decades analyzed.
