The documentation of cultural heritage is one of the processes of guardianship that, in addition to knowledge, provides the basis for dissemination, accessibility and protection. In this sense, the digitization of data plays a key role in the accessibility, use and re-use of information. This study addresses the complexity of classification, focusing on the case of industrial heritage, to generate greater efficiency of heritage information management systems. For this purpose, a methodology of analysis of existing resources and tools at national and international level is applied and a proposal is made covering three blocks: sectors, typologies and activities. The problems detected and the methodology applied can be extended to other cases and heritage categories. The study is an advance that provides the basis for facilitating access, reuse and preservation of heritage information.
