Proposal for Informational Forensics in digital audiovisual television archive

In a context of increasing digitalization, content manipulation, and the proliferation of controlled media narratives, this article proposes and develops the concept of informational forensics as an emerging field at the intersection of information science, archival studies, and digital forensic investigation. Through a critical review of concepts such as documentary authenticity, informational traceability, and forensic analysis, the paper outlines a conceptual and methodological framework aimed at safeguarding the integrity, truthfulness, and transparency of digital archives, with a particular focus on television audiovisual archives. It examines how these archives, due to their testimonial value, are especially vulnerable to processes of censorship, narrative manipulation, and intentional omission of information. The article advocates for a forensic-informed perspective that enables the detection of documentary gaps, the reconstruction of suppressed contexts, and the preservation of authentic versions, incorporating practices drawn from documentary expertise, diplomatics, and forensic documentology. AI has been used for the revision and improvement of the writing.
