Tipologies of Science and Technology Observatories. The cases of Latin America and Europe

Since the foundation of the French Observatory of Science and Techniques (OST) in 1990, a number of similar initiatives have been brought up in different countries. The purpose of this work is to describe how these units have been implemented and their role played in each country. The study mainly focuses on the observatories created in Latin America and compares them to the European equals. The results show that in peripheral countries as the ones studied, the complexity to develop a network of associates to feed the observatories with information certainly hinders their production.
