The development of scientific output, the main features of the journals concerned and the productivity of authors in the area of library and information science as well as their adjustment to Lotka's negative potential distribution are studied. As for the latter, the application of Pao's method is justified as being most appropriate for obtaining the necessary parameters and a procedure is put forward to work out the values used to set up an output elite within this field of specialisation.
