¿Cargos por procesamiento o cargos por prestigio? Un análisis empírico de revistas médicas

Resumen

Los Cargos por Procesamiento de Artículos (APC) son tarifas pagadas a editoriales por la publicación gratuita de artículos científicos. Durante el periodo de estudio que comprendió los años 2019 y 2020, se examinaron un total de 2,870 revistas médicas para analizar los Cargos por Procesamiento de Artículos (APC). Se observó una variabilidad significativa en los APC dentro de las revistas médicas, con un rango que osciló entre 0 y 8,900 dólares. El APC promedio durante este periodo fue de 3,128 dólares. Además, se estimó una correlación positiva entre el índice de calidad de la revista y el APC, donde un punto adicional en el CiteScore implicó un aumento de entre 65 y 75 dólares en el APC. Se encontró que las publicaciones en español tienen APC más bajo que en italiano o en francés. Se estima que el CiteScore explica entre el 38% y el 64% de la variación marginal entre revistas en cuartiles adyacentes. En conclusión, la reputación de la revista tiene un mayor efecto que lo documentado previamente en la literatura en la variación relativa del APC.
