Although there are several studies on the scientific output of Library and Information Science in Spain, none of them has been addressed specifically to regional particularities. This work attempts to offer a first glimpse of the situation in Catalonia based on data retrieved from the Web of Knowledge using a dual approach: filtering for the category Information Science & Library Science and performing a subject search. The results show that while teaching in the discipline has a long history, it was only in the 2006-2010 period that scientific output began to be significant, thus reducing the relative importance of bibliometric studies, which previously had been overwhelmingly represented. Moreover, the amount of output produced by women is only one-third of the total, even though their presence is greater than that of males in Catalonian classrooms.
