An overview on the continuing education for information professionals in Spain, analysing their evolution in the last six years, is presented. The data obtained from a survey delivered to more than one hundred institutions involved in professional education show a very important growth of educational activities, a positive change in the institutional model and significant level of programs updating. However, important deficits, specially in coordination and quality areas, are found. The author points out the urgence of a national information service for continuing education, a substantial improvement in the quality, a more applied orientation and increased international cooperation.
